Holding the Line Against Santa Ana Winds
I remember back in 2006, we were working a job near the historic core when those brutal Santa Ana winds kicked up without warning. The air turned bone-dry and smelled like scorched brush, and suddenly, the lightweight temporary panels we'd just set up started rattling like thunder. One gust caught a section of unanchored chain link and sent it tumbling toward a storefront. We realized right then that standard setup wouldn't cut it when the wind starts howling through the valley.
We pivoted immediately, bringing out our heavy-duty weighted bases and extra bracing to fight that wind load. My crew and I spent the afternoon driving stabilizers deeper into the soil to ensure nothing else budged. We didn't leave until every single panel felt rock-solid against the gusts. The property owner stayed calm because we secured the site before any real damage could happen to the neighboring buildings.
Ricky's crew arrived and stabilized our entire perimeter before the storm could wreck our storefront.
